Thursday, May 5th, 2005Happy Cinco de Mayo! Sam’s doing well. We’re on day 3 of the 4 day treatment and we should be discharged sometime Saturday (I don’t think they’ll discharge him late Friday night). The big news is no roommate so far which is HUGE since our room at the hospital resembles the urban sprawl of Los […]

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005Sam starts round 5 of chemo today! This round is the same cocktail as round 3 – cisplatin and etoposide. It’s 4 days, 1 hour/day so we’re hoping to be done on Friday. For round 3, Sam did GREAT and we stayed out of the hospital for 2 weeks and gained some weight and just […]

Sunday, May 1st, 2005I just downloaded Macromedia Contribute and figured out how to update this also so beware! It’s been a great few days for Sam – any jailbreak from the hospital is a winner and when his daily GSCF shots ended, as they did Saturday, he’s a very happy boy. ALL of the kids in the hospital […]

Thursday, April 28th, 2005We made our jailbreak today. It’s almost the month of May. We are completely worn out, from waiting for high white blood count. To the doctors we say, “He’s taking longer to recover.” “Completely normal in later rounds,” they say to one another. “But,” we say, “our schedule will be off.” “Schedule? What schedule?” they […]

Thursday, April 21st, 2005Oof! We bounced back into the hospital Tuesday night with an infection. Sam’s white counts were officially zero and that seems to be the day we bounce back every time. He has some stomach pain and is starting to get the same itchy rash we had two chemos ago. He’s not as sick as he […]

Thursday, April 14th, 2005Four rounds of chemo down, two more plus stem cell transplant to go! We are home from the hospital tonight and have just finished round four. The nausea wasn’t too bad this round. We finally got it through our thick heads that dairy foods don’t go well with chemo. Yes, you might have thought that […]

Wednesday, April 6th, 2005We have now been home from the hospital for almost three weeks. Wohoo! (knock on wood of course). Spring has finally arrived in San Diego and we’ve been taking bike rides and little hikes and flying kites. Sammy has been seeing his friends on his off days from the clinic. It’s been wonderful to let […]
March 30, 2005
Wednesday, March 30th, 2005Sam is losing his hearing. I realized it last night after he said “What?” for the fifth time in a row. I thought back on the last couple of days and realized that he’s not hearing very well anymore. We did a hearing test before Cisplatin and he had perfect hearing and now, just like […]
March 28, 2005
Monday, March 28th, 2005We came home from the hospital Saturday night so Sammy could have Easter at home. We stayed in an extra day after finishing round three of chemo because he still wasn’t keeping anything down and we didn’t want him to get dehydrated. We had a roommate for the first time which made things a bit […]

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005Today’s good news! We just got a call from our doctor who said that the preliminary results from bone marrow biopsy and aspiration that they did on March 11 came back clear. Our initial bone marrow aspiration after diagnosis showed a 75 to 95% involvement. This is very good news for the stem cells we […]
