Friday, September 9th, 2005Sammy started radiation yesterday. The tomotherapy machine was pretty impressive, they programmed the CT scans in and we could see exactly where he was getting the radiation. The radiologist said that tomo turned out to be a fabulous solution for Sammy and he said they were very proud of themselves for the work they did […]

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005We are home today. We went up the City of Hope for a blood check and Dr. visit yesterday and were supposed to start radiation today but the radiologist called last night at 7pm to say that they are postponing it until tomorrow. Sammy does qualify for the tomo and they have mapped his body […]

Thursday, September 1st, 2005Oops – didn’t mean to go a whole week without an update. We are home in San Diego for a week. Sammy’s counts were so good that Dr. Bolotin let us go home until the 6th. It goes without saying that we are extremely happy to be here. Sammy’s been able to see Mimi, Joe […]

Monday, August 22nd, 2005I received a phone call from the champ (that would be Sam) to officially inform me that he was standing outside the hospital and was discharged! We are ecstatic and are looking forward to making sure he gets back to a normal, outdoor life as soon as possible. Margot is with him and I am […]

Friday, August 19th, 2005Sam is being discharged on Monday! This is great news. Margot & Sam will be staying at the Marriott and I’ll be in San Diego with Andy Monday – Thursday and then we’ll all be together again Friday-Sun. We’ll keep that schedule until they tell us it’s safe to go to San Diego. Next up […]
August 17, 2005 (Day +12)
Wednesday, August 17th, 2005Sam is doing great. Still has to start eating & drinking again but everything else is looking great. Most of the antibiotics & antifungals will be discontinued tomorrow and it’s really just him starting to eat for us to be discharged. When we discharge, we’ll still stay up in Duarte for a few weeks since […]
August 14, 2005 (Day +9)
Sunday, August 14th, 2005Great news! Sam’s ANC is 400. 500 is the arbitrary level that COH indicates as engraftment so we’ll be officially engrafted on Monday. This means his immune system is bouncing back and you can tell: his rashes are disappearing, he hasn’t had a fever in 36 hours, and he’s back to arguing with his mom […]
August 10, 2005 10th (Day +5)
Wednesday, August 10th, 2005Dick Van Dyke visited City of Hope yesterday and it was pretty awesome. He brought along three young gentleman and they formed a barbershop quartet that made the pediatric rounds for at least two hours. He sang two songs for Sam: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Chim Chimminy (from Mary Poppins) and it was spot-on. […]
