I wanted to write about the things that bring a smile to Sam’s face and thank everyone who helps!
- the night shift nurses from San Diego who emailed. when I told Sam, he sat up in bed and said ‘really!’. he was very excited – thank you!
- the ChemoAngels who always have letters and packages and stickers for Sam AND
Andy. If you want to put a smile on someone’s face, become a
www.chemoangels.com - all of the people who sent suggestions with activities for Sam to do (nerf, playdough, dominos and on). great suggestions – thanks!
- to his cousins in Australia who email him and have their friends from grade school email Sam also
- to Maureen & Elizabeth – when Sam hears your voice on the phone, he smiles
- to his little brother Andy; when Andy’s not around, who does Sam hit?
- and from Margot & I, to all of our friends & family who email &
call, the Pacific Beach Mommies Group who has raised money, cooked, bought toys & books, and has created posters with pictures of Sam’s favorite people (Joe, Arielle, Jake, Andy, Tyler, Mac, Julia, Jack, Dylan, Alesia & Anthony) – we have 3 huge cardboard thing-a-ma-jigs in our room and they really make it warm for all of us.
Last, Sam is doing well. He can handle pretty much anything the nurses dish out except for the oral medications (he’s taking some things to keep his liver/kidneys healthy). The oral stuff typically comes right back up and, though I tell each nurse this, they each want to see Sam’s automatic reflux machine in action and it never fails 🙂 If you want to see some huge laundry piles, just come to Room 3111! The COH nurses have been awesome so far but we still miss our San Diego crew who are just amazing and caring. Please keep the prayers coming for Sam and our friend Kelsey.
Thanks for reading – Neil
