Sammy has a new temporary line in his neck. Yuck. That will last about a week and then they’ll put a new hickman in. He’s feeling fine though and has been having a good time with his dad. Neil has been up there since Wednesday afternoon after the surgery and said that radiation is going much more smoothly now. It’s more of the in and out that we expected. Sammy has been to the playroom and had school with his teacher every day this week. He’s lasting the whole hour now and the teacher keeps telling us how well he’s doing. The City of Hope has the teacher come in every day which is great. When we get back to San Diego it’ll be more like three times a week. Sammy’s getting so grown up now. I gave him a kiss and said, “Have a good time with Daddy and don’t play too many video games.” He said, “Ok Mom, you have a nice time with Andy too.”
I’m home with Andy for a couple of days which has been fun. I took him to his preschool yesterday so he could see it and play on the playground. He’s scheduled to start for two days a week on October 5. He’s not too thrilled about the idea though, he says he just wants to stay home. Poor guy will be in the middle of playing monster or hide-and-seek with me and he says “I don’t want you to go anywhere. You stay with me.” He and I are driving back up to LA today and the whole family will be together over the weekend. I can’t wait until we are out of the hospital and back home.
Our Make-a-Wish coordinator called yesterday and told me that Sammy will be one of the three wish kids featured at their black tie gala in October. They are going to use the picture of him hugging Shamu. I thought that was pretty cool.
