Two Years
By Margot | March 12, 2012
Two years ago today we said goodbye to our sweet funny boy and he took his last breath in our arms. Ever since we have been trying to figure out how to live this crazy life without him. I don’t know that we have figured it out very well but we are trying. Thought these pictures captured his joy for life and his “up for anything” spirit.
In his honor, and in our need to flee the day, we are in Arizona for the Padres Spring Training with the boys. As much as we try not to give this day too much power (we would rather celebrate his birthday and his happy days) it seems to overpower us anyway. I’ve written an erased several posts through tears and haven’t come up with much except that we miss Sam so much.

Those are perfect captures of Sammy. Ashlyn, Luke, and I talked a lot about Sam today, trying to relive some fun memories. What a funny little man! He is so very missed!

Feeling your pain and emptiness alongside of you. Glad you are getting away as a family to make some new memories because of Sam.

Sam is in heaven watching all that goes on, rooting for his brothers at every game, laughing with family and still so much a part of everyone. He touched so many lives with his strength and courage to get well. He is with you . . . at spring training today and everyday. Love you all.

I remember that day too, as well as many which preceded it. All I can say is if we live on in the memories of our family and friends, Sam will have a very long life indeed.

I have never met Sam, but his smile and his brave approach to life touched me deeply. He certainly changed me. I know he is now bigger than life and he looks upon you from a very special place. You are all in my prayers, with love Anna ( Uncle Matt’s friend)

Love the pictures and seeing our redheaded Sam laughing and enjoying life to the fullest! You and Neil gave him that, a life full of love and enthusiasm!
We were thinking about him over the weekend, knowing this day was approaching…… thinking of all of you and your incredible strength.
May God and his special angels, namely Sammy be with you today and always.
love and prayers,

Tears and laughs in San Diego while you were away. Both return tonight as I stare at those awesome photos. Was looking through old photos on Monday as school yearbook is requesting baby photos — found an old box and was looking through and found the cutest photo of Mack and Sam that I hadn’t remembered. They were two, playing hide and seek in our old backyard. And oh, that smile, that goofy and wise little smile of Sam’s — what a gift. So much to miss about that kid. Love you all –

I think of you often and my heart breaks every time. My tears still flow easily as if it was yesterday. I miss my little chemo buddy. God bless all of you.
