19 and 19
By Margot | September 11, 2009
Those are our VMA/HVA numbers from Monday. Just got them back. Yeah Baby!Â
Sam is at the hospital getting blood. Wednesday’s red blood was 7.8 and platelets were 65 so we’re starting to drop. I’m picking up Andy from school and going to meet Sam and Neil at the hospital. Neil said Sam is one mad guy for being picked up early. He does not like missing school. He loves his new teacher and has a few good buddies in his class and he’s just happy every day I pick him up. His highs at dinner have been “the whole day.”  He’s eating tacos for breakfast, lunch and dinner which is funny but at least he’s eating. I think he needs spicy.
All three boys had a great week.  Andy loves his teacher too and showed us all the class pet ( a lizard).  He and Sam have recess together but not lunch. They’ve been playing kickball at recess. They’ve had two after school pool parties (one from Andy’s class last year and one for Sam’s soccer team) and soccer practice and those on top of all the preschool stuff  makes it seem like the school year pile up of events is starting.
If you ever do a business deal with Charlie when he’s all grown up you can be safe in the knowledge that he’s a man of his word. We had his open house for school on Thursday and we went and bought some underwear, put them on and he’s been diaper free ever since.  I’m sort of stunned but very happy. He’s been so cute and he and I had a good time playing at his open house together and the preschool picnic but he’s not very responsive to any of the teachers or kids yet so we’ll see how it goes next Tuesday. He had Jett over for a playdate this morning and they simulated wipeouts on their scooters just so he could go into his three year check-up all bruised up on his legs. He is 107% height according to Dr. James.
I’m going to run to pick up Andrew. I was almost a little scared to post this update since it’s all good news and I don’t want to jinx anything but there I’ve done it. We’ve had a great week and since I can contrast it to two weeks ago in Philadelphia, I am appreciating every second of it.
Sports report on Monday. First soccer games tomorrow.
Back from hospital. Didn’t actually get blood. 7.7 red blood 43 platelets, appt.Monday

Wow Charlie!!! I can attest to feat he did. He told me at least three times that ” I will go to the potty when school starts!!” And then he would shake his finger at me. He was dry every morning, and it was an opportunity to use the potty, but he wanted his diap!! So give my love to him, and tell him I am so proud of him at school. I do believe he will be a man of his word as an adult, a lot like someone else we know????? and love.
Great news about Sam! When asked how he is, and I tell them the whole pain and infusion story, people just look at me and say he is miracle child!! We know that!! Keep going sam!!!
Tell Andy that Abby wants to come back to CA now that she is friends with Andy. I think the spaghetti breakfasts did it!
love to all – Grandma Joan

Sam – you warrior of all warriors…you are so damn brave and strong and stoic…the magicwater is working. I am in awe of your strength.
Charlie-I am so proud of you- I remember walking into the hotel room and seeing Baby Charlie, about 4 foot tall, standing there with a look on his face. So I ask him, Charlie, are you pooping? He says no. Ok, I say. I turn and look for Andy. Then Charlie pipes up, I am peeing. I turn back and confirm this, Charlie are you peeing? Yes. I say ok..thinking I need to find a diaper…so I start rummaging through all the bags, God knows we had bags, and then I hear from behind me..Now, I am pooping.
Such a fact stater.
And my man Andy. A great swimmer and really really smart, sensitive, bright and funny. There were some teenage girls standing in a circle in the pool, chatting away..and Andy kept swimming underwater next to them and when he came up he would stand his hair straight up…he did this about ten times..always the same thing..standing his hair straight up…anyways, when we got back to Neils and Margot’s later in the week, I was pulling a Neil..that is sitting down reading a paper and when people talked to me I would say, Uh, huh, that is great..just like Neil does every day…anyhow, Andy is talking to me and telling me something, I wasnt listening, and I kept on telling him, sure , great idea..or something and then he starts to crawl all over me..and all of a sudden he hands me a fistful of my hair..I wake up from my stupor and say Andy, what did you do? He says, Uncle Tom I am helping you out and getting you a good cut so you can get the girls like me…
I am so damn happy tonight..19 and 19..
