Monday, August 22nd, 2005I received a phone call from the champ (that would be Sam) to officially inform me that he was standing outside the hospital and was discharged! We are ecstatic and are looking forward to making sure he gets back to a normal, outdoor life as soon as possible. Margot is with him and I am […]

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005Sam is doing great. Still has to start eating & drinking again but everything else is looking great. Sunday, August 14th, 2005Great news! Sam’s ANC is 400. 500 is the arbitrary level that COH indicates as engraftment so we’ll be officially engrafted on Monday. This means his immune system is bouncing back and you can tell: his rashes are disappearing, he hasn’t had a fever in 36 hours, and he’s back to arguing with his mom […]

He brought along three young gentleman and they formed a barbershop quartet that made the pediatric rounds for at least two hours. He sang two songs for Sam: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Chim Chimminy (from Mary Poppins) and it was spot-on. […]
August 9, 2005 (Day +4)
Tuesday, August 9th, 2005Still good news up here meaning no complications. Just the usual assortment of fevers, nausea, and rashes. But getting great treatment and watching the time fly by. If we’re lucky, by this time next week Sam’s immune system will be bouncing back and we’ll be on the road to recovery. Sam is sleeping a bunch […]
August 9, 2005 (Day +4)
Tuesday, August 9th, 2005(A preface – we are beyond thankful to be at City of Hope – many of our friends have asked that we tell it from Sam’s perspective since we try to be so positive. Below is a view from Sam’s vantage) So, if you think you are having a hard day -your boss is being […]
August 8, 2005 (Day +3)
Monday, August 8th, 2005Sam, like all other kids going through stem cell transplants, is seeing is fair share of nausea, fevers, and general uncomfortableness. As parents, though it’s tough to be here, we are ecstatic that Sam has gotten this far and we’re thankful for every day with him on this planet! So, we’re ok with all of […]
